2005 - Improving Public Services Award

idea.gov.uk Improving Public Services- Open to national, regional and local government, this category, sponsored by IDeA, seeks entries that utilise ICT to deliver improvements in customer services and public service delivery using ICT.

Winner: Humberside Police

Humberside Police, working in conjunction with the National Interpreting Service, has adapted its Police radio technology so that officers can engage with non-English speaking members of the public through an interpreter at the touch of a button.

Judges’ comment:   By adapting police radios to take account of the diversity of the population, this initiative is an excellent example of how ICT can be used to improve public services and, particularly in this case, the relationship between the police and the public it serves.”
