Age and Disability - Supported by BT, this category introduced in 2004 seeks entries focusing on specifically on enhancing ICT access and services for elderly and disabled people.
Winner: GameON!
GameOn! enables young people with disabilities to access computer games and other leisure software in the same way as their able-bodied friends. It does this by providing an accessible website containing a database of software titles that includes detailed information on accessibility, data from user trials and other features of relevance and interest.
Judges’ comment: “GameOn! is a great example of an ICT-based initiative that helps to break down some of the barriers faced by disabled people in engaging in gaming and leisure software. It’s a very simple and very effective use of technology that really is making a tangible difference to peoples’ lives”.
